So you have decided to study abroad in America and you couldn’t be more excited. And you should be excited; you are about to embark on a great journey, meeting new people, seeing new sights, and having the experience of a lifetime. But now you face the most important decision, which college is right for you?
Choosing a school to attend is the biggest decision you will make. Start by considering the academic program you choose to complete. Once you know this you can take some time doing research online to find which colleges and universities offer the major and which have the most renowned programs in the field.
If you are unsure of what you wish to study, start by considering which part of the country you would like to live in. Would you rather be in the city or somewhere rural? Is there a certain state you wish to know more about? Would you love to be able to study on the beach year-round or would you rather play in the snow?
Once you know a general location you can then narrow down the schools in that area. Colleges that offer a liberal arts program for undecided students, as well as offering a vast amount of different majors, may be a good choice because you will have the opportunity to try different courses from different fields to see which is right for you.
Also, consider researching which schools are most accommodating to students from other countries, many schools may offer programs to help with English tutoring or activities to make sure you are well assimilated into the schools culture.
After you have decided, applied, and have been granted admission to a college begin to research the area where your school is located. You will be much more comfortable if you arrive knowing the cost of living, cultural differences, and locations of important amenities, such as medical facilities, banking, mailing, shopping and eating locations.
