Educational Opportunities Outside the Country; Learn While Teaching

How about education opportunities abroad? There are many to look into, but there’s one that’s caught our eye and it looks pretty good; WorldTeach.org. This is an organization that takes a group of volunteers to third world countries where they do all kinds of education and work to better the lives of the communities.

There are several trips to choose from; year-long programs (11-12 months), summer programs (8 weeks) and semester programs (6 months). Each have a different duration, which depends largely on what they’re doing, where they are in the world and what’s needed there.

World Teach supplies all the requirements for potential volunteers on their website and the application process is lengthy. A minimum requirement is to have a bachelor’s degree for the year-long trips, but anyone aged 18 to 75 (except in China where volunteers can only reach 65) can go on the shorter trips.

Be prepared to do necessary paperwork and bring the documentation needed, and that includes having a valid visa that’s good for at least one year longer than the trip applied for.

Volunteers must speak fluent English, but they don’t have to be American or from the US. Applicants can come from any country in the world, as long as they meet the application requirements. No prior teaching or foreign language experience is needed, and all language training will be provided by World Teach. However, the successful applicant will undergo a 25 hour class of ESL.

Here’s a list of just some of the places they’ve been in recent years:
American Samoa
Bangladesh
Chile Pat Sur
China Hunan
Columbia
Coasta Rica
Ecuador
Guyana
Marshall Islands
Micronesia
Panama
Namibia
Tanzania
Thailand

There’s so much to be learned by going to these countries and living in foreign communities. The language is one, plus, being immersed in another culture, lots of culture experiences, fun, helping others, making a difference, and much more.

Step out of your comfort zone.
